Description: Uses: Medicinal, for pain, dizziness, sickness. Mixed with alcohol (voucher). Made into tea for stomachache, diarrhea, including those caused by mal ojo (Anderson et al. 2003:206). Leaves used as an antispasmodic; common abortifacient with severe side effects; also for mal de ojo,and mal viento, diarrhea (Ankli et al. 1999:53). Medicinal (hojas) para tratar llagas, sacar gusanos de infección, dolor de oídos, muelas, para enfermedades filiales, ritual (usada en varios ritos) se vende en casi todos los mercados; insecticida natural y en los ritos de Semana Santa los jueves y viernes santos, [BADEPY] (Arellano et al. 2003:534). Drunk for stomach cramps, late menses, to kill intestinal worms, prevent epilepsy attacks, stop vomiting, and calm nerves. To ease child birth and aid contractions. As a liniment helps to ease sore muscles, backache, headache, muscle spasms, fever, exhaustion, and fanting spells. Useful against spiritual diseases and evil spirits (Arvigo and Balick 1998:179). Rub leaves between palms, massage juice into hair and scalp of children for mal de ojo (Comerford 1990:335). Common Names: Ruda (Anderson et al. 2003:206). Ruda (Ankli et al. 1999:53).
