Description: Uses: En Yucatán es introducida como ornamental; sus hojas sirven para tratar enfermedades de la piel como la sarna y demás excoriaciones para lo cual se mastrujan las hojas y se aplican; la miel contenida en el fruto leñoso es usada como refrescante y se prepara en forma de refresco concentrada; es purgante; por la belleza de sus flores y por la forma, tamaño y color del fruto, como ornamental (Arellano et al. 2003:330-331). When legume falls, put in ground 8 days, its 'honey' then extracted for whooping cough and to 'strengthen the blood', dried pod scraped as musical instrument, tree form and top' admired for beauty (Atran 1993:655). Beverage, medicinal (including insect repellent), food, ornamentation, miscellaneous product (Balick et al. 2000:86). Common Names: Carao, fístula, caña fístula (Arellano et al. 2003:330). Stinking toe, bucut, b'ukut' (Atran 1993:655). Beef feed, bookut, bu-ket, bu-kut, bu- kút, carao, stinking toe (Balick et al. 2000:86).
