Description: Uses: Plant boiled for asthma; also planted with food crops to ward off pests (Anderson et al. 2003:192). Ceremonial; para el susto; ornamental; melíera; en medicina como: antiespasmódico, cólicos, cáncer [Del Amo, 1979]; afecciones del bazo [Andrews, 1979]; enfermedades del estómago, afecciones del higado [Andrews, 1979, Martinez, 1969]; supuración de los ojos (Osado R., 1834, Del Amo, 1979); orzuela, enfermedades de los párpados y pestañas [Osado R., 1834]; como insecticida; se considera carminativo [Del Amo, 1979] (Arellano et al. 2003:145-146). A stimulant and perspiration producer; sap applied to skin fungus, ring worm, and boils 3 times daily. Also used to treat backache, poor circulation, and used to help remove rotten, painful teeth; the flower is considered a good luck charm (Arvigo and Balick 1998:105). Boil leaves in water with leaves of other species, bathe for aches; crush leaves, drink juice for intestinal worms (Comerford 1990:332). Common Names: Pajul, pujuk (refers to all Tagetes spp.) (Anderson et al. 2003:192, 202). Cempasuchil, flor de muerto, puhuc, puk puuk, ts'uul xpujuk, xpayjul, xpa' ajuk (Arellano et al. 2003:145).
