Description: Uses: The huge leaves are often used to wrap tamales, wrap or cover food (including ritual foods) in the pib, provide a surface for patting out tortillas, etc., especially in Pre-contact times. Sticky bud put on persistent granos and wounds, blackened skin and k'iinam (infections/sores on or near mouth), and and on protruding navel of babies (Anderson et al. 2003:113). En medicina se considera astringente [Standley, 1930, Andrews, 1979, Osado R., 1834]; diaforético [Andrews, 1979]; emenagogo, retención de orina [Osado R., 1834]; estimulante [Standley, 1930, Osado R., 1834]; y para tratar diarrea crónica, disentería, enfermedades venereas [Standley, 1930, Andrews, 1979, Osado R., 1834]; dolor de ojos [Roys, 1931]; ornamental, el fruto es comestible; melífera (nectar) (Arellano et al. 2003:497). Food, beverage, medicine, fuel, forage, miscellaneous products, construction, tannin (Balick et al. 2000:63). Edible fruit; tea made from bark used to cure diarrhea; alcohol added to same tea and mixed to cure ulcers (Kunow 2003:118). Common names: Boob [same name for others in this genus] (Anderson et al. 2003:113). Nixche', uva de mar, uvero, ni'iche' [Barrera, 1976]; uva de mar, uva de playa, uva marina, uvero (Arellano et al 2003:497). Camero, manzana (Sin), roble de la costa (Tab), uva, uva de la costa (Tab), uva de la playa (Tam), (Martinez, 1979); uva de mar, uvero [Barrera, 1976] (Arellano et al. 2003:497).
