Description: Uses: Reputed to be used in the following ways: cook root and mix with sugar and cinnamon, then drink as a fresco; also considered a preservative against getting malaria if one drinks it with coffee daily (voucher). Medicinal, can be chewed to put on cuts and wounds as first aid in the field. Boil leaves and bathe in the liquid for talking in sleep (Anderson et al. 2003:164). En medicina como antipirético, depurativo, tónico, para tratar reumatismo, y afecciones sifilíticas [Standley, 1930] (Arellano et al. 2003:396). Beverage, medicine (Balick et al. 2000:155). Common names: Zarzaparilla macho, bejuco de la vida (voucher). Ya'ax k'iix ('green thorn'), kojkeej ('deer tooth') (Anderson et al. 2003:52, 242, 313). Lilia [Mendieta, 1981], kokeh, kokeeh, xkokeh, xkokeh-ak', zarza parrilla [Barrera, 1976] (Arellano et al. 2003:396).
