Description: Uses: Water in leaf bases used as emergency water source; used medicinally to treat menstrual issues (Anderson et al. 2003:135, 268). Ornamental; en medicina la mota de la base de las hojas para taponear heridas de caballo; como es arrosetada, el agua que guarda la usan las abejas (Arellano et al. 2003:85). Common names: Ch'u', ch'uu, ch'oo' (Anderson et al. 2003:135, 312). Chak-ka'nalsihil, xk'eo, xk'u, xtub [Barrera, 1976]; gallito, x-chu (en el oriente de Yucatan y parte de Quintana Roo), x-sinta kuuk o cinta hkuuk, chu, cinta kuuk (Arellano et al. 2003:85). Image Notes: Fruit: 4.0-10.0 mm long indehiscent capsule with long awn like bracts covering protecting the seed hirsute. Angled attachment at peduncle insertion.
